2011 Tour de Palate Honored HeroWilson Holloway
He attended Heritage Hall Schools from first through 10th grades, establishing many lifelong friendships while participating in football, basketball, and drama. Wilson attended Oklahoma Christian School for his 11th and 12th grade years, graduating in 2007. There he made his mark on the football field, earning numerous individual honors, including all-state consideration. Wilson also lettered in basketball and was an integral part of two state championship seasons. He was known for his tremendous work ethic, gritty determination, selflessness, and dedication to his teammates. Off the field, he was engaging, personable, energetic, full of life and always had a smile for anyone who met him. During his senior year, he was recognized as Christian athlete of the year. He attended the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship and was a part of that fellowship until his death. In March of 2008, Wilson was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. His body was often ravaged by his disease and by the powerful treatments he had to endure; however his spirit was never broken. After being diagnosed and undergoing treatments, he continued to actively participate on the football field and the classroom. He was awarded the College Football Association's NCAA Courage Award for the athlete who exhibits perseverance, effort, and courage when faced with severe adversity. He served as an inspiration to his teammates, coaches and the student body at-large. He never allowed success to go to his head and was always humble, sweet, and generous. Wilson loved the Lord and kept his hope in Him. He gave himself to God by putting on Christ in baptism. He was actively involved in church from a young age. Wilson served for several years as a crew leader during Vacation Bible Day Camp at the Northeast Church of Christ. Wilson was called away from this life by God on February 16, 2011. A great void has been left in our lives. We miss him so much, it seems unbearable at times; but we love him more than we miss him, and love endures forever. Wilson, throughout it all, stuck to his motto, JUST KEEP SMILING. From the size of Wilson's smile, it was sometimes hard to ascertain that he was fighting for his life. We chose to remember that smile as we are proud to honor Wilson Holloway's memory and life as the 2011 Tour de Palate Honored Hero.
